About Us

Hi! My name is Cheri Thomas and I will be your tour guide. I’m 62, mother of three and grandmother of 4. I'm also the owner of Minibus Britain and responsible for making sure you come home with lasting memories.

After living in the San Fernando Valley, (Chatsworth) near Los Angeles, for many years, I moved to the mountains in N. California. I loved the area and lived there for 20 years.  Due to the economy, I moved 6 months ago and currently live in Sacramento, Calif.

Everyone has a passion...

Mine is the history of the UK.  While I’ve always had a fascination with history, the history of the UK has enthralled me since I was in my mid 20’s.  I have many books on the subject and have read all of them several times.  Over time, my special areas of interest have come to include the Celtic tribes, the Roman occupation, the Kings of Wessex and the Platagenets.  While it would appear that my focus is on England, the histories of Scotland and Wales are also included.  Both of these areas of the UK are equally, if not more, beautiful than England and have wonderful histories.  I am an active member of English Heritage, The National Trust and Heritage in Wales (CADW).

I have been traveling to and exploring the different areas of the UK since 1984.  Believe it or not, I still haven’t seen it all.  There is “so” much to see and explore!!

After my trip in 1999, it occurred to me that I should be taking people over to show them all of the places that I love so much, so I set out to do just that. I developed an itinerary, hired a bus and driver and MiniBus Britain was launched in 2003. I felt the first trip should be an “Introduction to England”; a chance for people to see all of the places they’ve heard about (London, The Tower, Windsor Castle, Stonehenge etc.). It was a great success. Since then we’ve developed a Village & Garden Tour (the Cotswolds), Scotland, Cornwall and even did a trip to Ireland in 2006. Future trips will include, Roman Britain, Wales, The Lake District, A Castle Tour and many others.

Why are we different?

While the larger cities have interesting things to see, I prefer the “back roads” and ancient tracks between villages. There is where you really discover Britain.

I looked at the large tour companies (Globus, Trafalgar etc.), what they offer and how they offer itI watched the other tours that stopped at the various sites I was visiting. My observations led me to the conclusion that the people on the big bus tours just don't have the opportunity to experience enough of the rich heritage of the land. Somehow it just wasn't very appealing to hear the tour guide bark, “This is Stonehenge, be back on the bus in 30 minutes!”.

I decided to try something different...

Minibus Britain will never be restricted to a tight schedule, nor will we be restricted to a static, predefined route that can't be altered. If we decide we want to hang a right at the next back road for the sole purpose of seeing what's down there, we will have the option to do just that.

To sum up, I want you to experience sites like Stonehenge, not just run around them really fast twice then it's back on the bus to the next place. I want you to see all the places we visit in the way that I see them. To do that means we have to take a little time after the shutter stops to talk about the site, it's history, meaning and purpose. My tour is about encouraging you to take the time to explore, discover and reflect on the things you see. That way when you go home, you'll take with you memories to last a lifetime!
